International Guests at the ELH

10/08/2024

At the ELH, we regularly welcome international guests on the grounds of the former coking plant Zollverein. However, the Senior Fellows of the College for Social Sciences and Humanities from the University Alliance Ruhr possibly set a new record for the greatest diversity of nationalities within a single group we have ever hosted.

On October 1st,  eight outstanding international scholars joining the College for Social Sciences and Humanities as Senior Fellows for the winter term 2024/2025 from renowned universities in Israel, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the USA paid the ELH a visit. The accomplished researchers will spend the next six months working on collaborative projects with their tandem partners from the University Alliance Ruhr. Their fields of research cover a wide range of disciplines, from sociology, gender studies, German studies, and English linguistics to philosophy and religious studies, political science, and arts.

Seizing the opportunity to not only learn about the World Heritage Site Zollverein but also a visit an on-site research facility, the Senior Fellows were welcomed by Dr. Oliver Kraff and given a brief introduction and overview to ultra-high field MRI (UHF MRI). The international guests were very interested in the topic and asked many questions, which Oliver Kraff was happy to answer. The visit at the ELH concluded with a short guided tour to the 7 Tesla MRI scanner.

We thank you for your visit and hope you have an excellent stay at the College for Social Sciences and Humanities!
