Join Us for Girls' Day 2025!
02/27/2025
Almost everyone has to undergo an MRI (short for magnetic resonance imaging) at some point in their lives - but what exactly does the machine do and why is it so important for hospitals and science? The short answer is: because it allows us to look inside people, for example to find tumours in cancer patients.
Because we think that MR physics is such an exciting field, we are once again taking part in Girls' Day on 3 April this year. Unlike last year, this time it's primarily about the technology behind the devices and why our scientists are working to develop ever more advanced MRIs.
On Girls' Day, you will therefore accompany two of our scientists (Dr Oliver Kraff and Dr Markus May) for a few hours as they go about their work. They will tell you everything you need to know about the mechanisms by which magnetic resonance imaging works and take you to our in-house workshop, where you can take part in building a coil yourself.
The event will take place at the Erwin L. Hahn Institute at the Zollverein World Heritage Site in Essen.
It starts at 09:00 and you will probably finish at 13:00. The number of participants is limited to 6, registration by 26 March 2025 to elh@uni-due.de is required. We look forward to seeing you!
